The inaugural 2019 Hillsdale Stopwatch Invitational is coming to Hillsdale on June 15. Hillsdale, Lynbrook and Notre Dame will gather in a friendly competition. Stopwatch will use People v. Freeman, a student-written case featuring two criminal counts, (1) Battery, and (2) Possession of Methamphetamine, as well as a pretrial argument on the Fourth Amendment. The case has been posted for download below. If you're interested in using the case for competition, contact the authors, Ryan Scibetta, Megan Evans, and Manuel Bernal at ryan.scibetta@gmail.com.

Hillsdale bids a sad farewell to its 2019 Seniors who went out of their way to mentor younger mock trialers and, through their hard work and dedication, left the program in a better place than when they arrived. Thank you and good luck!

Hillsdale celebrated a successful 2019 season at Law Day at the Elks Club in San Mateo. Congratulations to the Hillsdale JV team who received its trophy for winning its first San Mateo County Championship. Congratulations also to Sadie Eisner who received a special honor for her witness work as Officer Keegan Lopez. Hillsdale JV had an opportunity to travel to Santa Barbara to practice against some top competition last weekend in Santa Barbara. We faced off against some good young talent from San Marcos and Lynbrook. Using People v. Klein, witnesses drew their roles out of a hat before the competition and both sides were allowed one surprise witness. Attorneys had to create their crosses on their feet without any preparation. We had a lot of fun and came back better mock trialers.
Hillsdale will be sending its first ever competitor, Allison Rulli, to Gladiator on July 12. She will be competing against the best in world. We have a great team that will be helping her get ready. If you're interested in scrimmaging , let us know (mspringman@smuhsd.org). Good luck Allison! Hillsdale completed a great 2019 season with both teams competing in the County final in Redwood City. Our Varsity team finished in second place in San Mateo County (out of 16) in a hard-fought final round with The Menlo School. Our JV team won its first San Mateo County Championship! Though we have a truly tremendous group of seniors whom we will miss, we have a great group coming back and are looking forward to winning County in 2020.
P.S. Watch this space for information on the First Annual Hillsdale Stop Watch Invitational, featuring the case of People v. Freeman -- coming June 8th. On October 27, the Hillsdale Varsity traveled to Sacramento for its first scrimmages of the year where they competed against some of the top teams in the state (Shasta, Moreau Catholic, and Sacramento Country Day). The next week the JV team traveled to Moreau Catholic to compete against their JV team. Though we know we have a lot of work to do, we also have a lot to build on. Most importantly, we had fun.
After a long, intense and very competitive tryout process, we have finally chosen our 2018-2019 team. Congratulations to our 19 new members who were chosen from the most talented field of candidates in years.
We're all very excited to get started! P.S. Guest bloggers welcome. Contact Coach Springman. |
